On October 10, DONGFENG Commercial Vehicles unveiled its new-generation D600 modular platform at a global launch event in Wuhan, China. The event showcased a diversified portfolio of commercial vehicles powered by different energy technologies, including hydrogen fuel cells, pure electric systems, and ammonia-fueled powertrains. The company also secured intended orders for 8,700 vehicles from 10 strategic customers, covering new energy applications, intelligent driving and overseas markets.

The D600 platform represents a broader approach to commercial vehicle development, extending beyond individual models to integrate vehicle design, energy solutions, financial services and digital operations. By adopting a modular platform strategy, DONGFENG aims to improve development efficiency and adapt its products to different transportation requirements.

A total of 18 vehicles were exhibited, covering long-haul logistics, regional transportation, resource hauling, agricultural and bulk cargo, and express delivery. Highlights included the DONGFENG Tianlong KH hydrogen-powered tractor truck for long-distance transport and its pure electric counterpart for regional operations. The diversified lineup reflects the different range, payload and energy supply requirements of commercial transportation.

The event also featured nine technology exhibits, including the DAi14 ammonia-fueled internal combustion engine, an electric drive axle, a 300 kW hydrogen fuel cell system, a high-safety battery pack, an integrated thermal management module, a domain controller assembly, and the DEA 3.0 electrical and electronic architecture. These technologies demonstrate the company’s ongoing development across alternative energy systems, vehicle integration and intelligent vehicle control.

The 8,700 intended orders highlight customer interest in DONGFENG’s multi-energy strategy, spanning ammonia fuel, hydrogen, battery-electric vehicles, intelligent driving and international markets. Their eventual conversion into deliveries and real-world operating performance will be important indicators of the platform’s commercial potential.

As the commercial vehicle industry accelerates its transition toward lower-emission transportation, DONGFENG’s D600 platform reflects a strategy of matching different energy technologies to specific operating conditions.
